I was just wondering if you are ready for the next school year.
What are you going to use this year and what grades are you teaching?

I still have a couple of things to purchase. I will probably do that on Thursday. We also have school supplies to purchase, but I'm almost done with that too. We don't start school until September 2nd.

I just purchased the material I'm using for Bible class but I have all my other school books. I haven't bought any school supplies like pencils and paper and probably won't do that to the last minute. I do have to get my school books out of their boxes and put them in the cupboards I keep them in and box up this past year's stuff.

I have all my books, except I'll probably need to get a couple more for my kindergartner who couldn't wait and got into his this spring. I ordered them really early this year--like before we were done with last year's school.

I still need to go shopping for crayons, pencils, paper, glue, etc.

Since my financial situation has changed, I now have to rethink a lot of what I was going to purchase.

I have my math program-Right Start Mathematics. Am using Tapestry of Grace curriculum for bible/history/geography. It is this program that I have to rethink what to do and use.

Grammar is still Sing, Spell Read & Write-although I am using a different program for writing-one specifically for left handers.

We school year-round, so we don't really have an official start or stop time. But I AM looking forward to using a new vocabulary when we finish up with what we have now, and I'm really hoping Teaching Textbooks will work well for my daughter who's about to finish off her math workbook in a few weeks.

Ds1 needs to look at college classes for this year. He knows he wants to have a heavier load fall, heaviest load winter, and light load spring. Why? Too much racing in the spring! I can't argue!

I have pretty much everything for ds4. I do want to get a writing program for him. Everything else, I already have on hand.

For school supplies, I automatically buy stuff when it goes on sale. Somehow, I suspect that even after all the kids are out of the house, I'll still be buying a gross of #2 pencils every fall!

Ds started first grade on June 1, so, yes, I'm ready for school. We are using a workbook for math but other than that, no textbooks. We bought notebooks and tablets over the weekend just because they were super cheap, but I don't know how many we'll need.

I have many of the books I need because I saved everything from schooling Seth- but I only have one of each book, and since we do subjects like history and science together, I need another Streams of Civilization, Exploring Creation through Physical Science- stuff like that.

I added it up the other day- with what I could find on Amazon, ebay, and homeschool classifieds, as well as supplies, I need about $258 for school this year.

Who wants to cut me a check?

Edited to add: We usually school all year, but this summer we have taken July and most of August off to go on vacation to Washington DC (which was hot but fun), and to work at our church's VBS. Plus this year I just really needed some down time. I love homeschooling, but I tend to neglect myself, so the hubby declared that I am to take some time to recharge my batteries. I've been doing alot of reading and writing and re-organizing the house. Pretty soon he is going to get tired of not knowing where the furniture is going to be next and he'll declare the first day of school!

I'm ready. Will post what we're using later.

Will still buy some supplies as they're on sale, but not because we need them right now...just because they're cheap and to fill my supply bin up.

We used SOS. Just the other day I put up a set of discs & took out a set. Now to look for the next Saxon math book. And it will hopefully have the answer key with it.

I chose "is it that time of year already?"

We are using a variety of materials that are en route...

I do need to go shopping for the basics for DS. Anyone know where the good sales are this week?

This is what we're using this year...
5th grade for Noah:

Bible...BJU (Bob Jones)
Math...Alpha Omega Lifepacs
English...Grammar Rules, Diagramming, and Words on the Vine, all found on CBD
Reading...we are going to be reading full books, some together, some he will read on his own, some that I choose, some that he chooses. Book reports will be done on all of them.
Social Studies/History...SOS
Science/Health...SOS
Art/Music...Christian Light Education

Hannah is in kindergarten and we are using BJU for her. Was a bit pricy, but I have two more kids to go through it and will only have to replace the workbooks.

I’ll post what I’m doing with my fifth grader, since it’s easy and I can remember.
Bible: Kay Arthur kids Bible studies
Math-U-See
All About Spelling
Reading: Due do his vision problems and his attitude, he needs a lot of work in reading, so we will be reading together daily. Some of his reading will include history. All of his history will be combined with reading this year. I hope to do the Holling C. Holling books and do the unit study that goes with them.
Writing: Copy work
He is also in Boy Scouts, so he will be doing a lot that is academic, which will help him.
Science: He will participate in science experiments with his sisters.

I thought I was ready until I found out that DD told me she cheated in Algebra:( She will be repeating... I will have her and DS and myself doing Algebra. The problem is, is that I don't know what Science to use for her since chemistry needed Algebra. I'm going to try and use chemistry...but we will see how it goes.

Other than that, I don't know when to start school. I'm going to sit down and prepare lesson plans hopefully this week and I really hope & pray this school year goes well. I am putting more on my plate and that is the part that worries me. I will be doing Math and History and Bible and Spanish together with them...and then I will be doing one on one with my 2nd grader and I would like to add in my preschooler somehow so that I can work with him on his vision.
